How to play Kings Corner

Kings Corner — also called Kings in the Corner — is a relaxed, solitaire-style card game for 2 to 4 players. Everyone shares one layout in the middle of the table, and the goal is simple: be the first player to get rid of every card in your hand.

The setup

Each player is dealt seven cards. The rest of the deck becomes the draw pile in the center, and four cards are turned face up to its north, east, south and west — these are the four side piles. The four diagonal spaces are the corners. If a King is turned up for a side pile, it moves straight into a corner and another card takes its place.

Your turn

  1. Draw one card from the draw pile. BieGames does this for you automatically.
  2. Play as many cards as you like using the moves below — or none at all.
  3. Press End turn when you can't, or don't want to, play any more.

Legal moves

  • Build down in alternating colors. A card can go on any pile if it is exactly one rank lower and the opposite color — a red 7 on a black 8, a black Jack on a red Queen. Aces are low, so nothing can be played on an Ace.
  • Kings go in the corners. A King can only be played into an empty corner, and a new pile builds down from it.
  • Move a whole pile. If the bottom card of a side pile fits on top of another pile, slide the entire side pile across. That frees up a side space.
  • Fill an empty side space. Any card except a King can be played into an empty side space to start a new pile.

Winning a round

The first player to play their last card wins the round. If the draw pile runs out and nobody can play for a full lap of the table, the round ends and the player holding the fewest cards wins it.

Kings Corner scoring

When a round ends, everyone still holding cards takes penalty points:

Card left in your handPenalty
King10 points
Any other card1 point

Rounds continue until somebody reaches the target — 25 points by default, or 50 for a longer game. The player with the lowest total wins. Prefer a quick game? Choose One round in Settings and the first player out wins outright.

Kings Corner strategy tips

  1. Get your Kings out early. A King left in your hand costs 10 points and can only go to a corner, so play it the moment a corner opens.
  2. Merge piles to make space. Moving one side pile onto another opens a side space you can fill with an awkward card from your hand.
  3. Fill empty spaces with high cards. Queens and Jacks are hard to place; low cards usually find a home later.
  4. Scan every pile before ending your turn. It is easy to miss that your red 9 fits on a black 10 across the table.
  5. Avoid ending your turn with an empty side space. The next player can drop any card there — fill it yourself if you can.
  6. Use the Hint button while you learn. It highlights one good move without playing it for you.

Kings Corner FAQ

Is Kings Corner the same game as Kings in the Corner?

Yes. The game is also known as Kings in the Corners or Corner Kings. House rules vary a little; BieGames uses the most common version: build down in alternating colors, Kings only in the corners, and whole piles can be moved.

How many players can play Kings Corner?

Two to four. Here you play against one, two or three computer players — choose the table size in Settings.

Can you put a King on a side pile?

No. Kings can only start a pile in an empty corner. If a King is dealt to a side pile at the start of a round, it is moved into a corner automatically.

What happens when the draw pile runs out?

Players keep taking turns without drawing. If nobody can play for a full lap of the table, the round ends and the player with the fewest cards wins it.

Do I have to play a card on every turn?

No. After you draw, you can end your turn whenever you like, even if you could still play.

Can I play Kings Corner on my phone or tablet?

Yes. BieGames runs in any modern browser on phones, tablets and computers with nothing to install. Your game is saved automatically, so you can close the page and pick up where you left off.
